Basic terms
Unaccompanied minor – a child under the age of 18 who comes to another country unaccompanied by his or her parents, even with a loved one, has an internationally established status of unaccompanied minor.
Care must be taken to ensure that:
- not be exposed to abuse, trafficking, etc., so that it is safe physically, socially and mentally.
- was not separated from those close to him who speak his language, know him, with whom he has an established relationship and feel safe with them, even if they are not his legal representatives and could legally be considered an unaccompanied child
Basic concepts of minors accompanied by a loved one
It is important that such a child is protected by the state authorities of the receiving state, that his or her status is legally treated, that the state authorities know where and with whom he or she is and whether he or she is safe with the persons with whom he or she wishes to be voluntary. In our case, this means that the legal solution to the child’s situation must be contacted by the nearest ÚPSVaR.
The child should remain in the care of the adult he or she comes with and wants to take care of, or the person he or she is sent to by his or her parents / legal guardians.

The body for social protection of children and social guardianship, which finds out about such a child, submits a proposal to the court for an urgent measure and ensures its admission to the Center for Children and Family.
